Welcome! The first step in determining scale-readinesss is articulating your "scaling why:" Why does your organization exist and what is the impact you seek to create? Complete the four questions below and receive a customized report with your responses, potential areas of focus, and resources.

ISSUE ANALYSIS: What issue are you trying to solve and do you understand the root causes?

BEGINNING: We can articulate the broad issue but are just beginning to narrow in on where we fit. LOW PROGRESS: We can articulate the specific issue but we have not clearly articulated the root causes. MEDIUM PROGRESS: We can articulate the specific issue and have detailed hypotheses of what root causes have and continue to contribute. HIGH PROGRESS: We can articulate the specific issue and have empirical evidence that clearly ties root causes to the issue.

VISION: What is your big vision of the future state you're trying to help create?

BEGINNING: We have been focused on developing a product or service, and haven't yet tied it to a vision for change. LOW PROGRESS: We can articulate the issue and the change we seek with our solution, but we haven't tied that to a big vision for the future. MEDIUM PROGRESS: We can articulate the magnitude of the problem, the future state we envision, and ideas for how we can contribute to that future state. HIGH PROGRESS: We can articulate the magnitude of the problem and have a bold vision of the future state we envision. We are clear on how we uniquely contribute to that future state and have set goals to help us measure our progress.

SOLUTION MATURITY: How confident are you that you know what the solution is and how it contributes to your vision?

BEGINNING: We have not developed the solution yet; we are in idea- or prototype-phase. LOW PROGRESS: We have done only a small test of our solution and are not yet sure if we have the right feature mix or how it addresses the outcomes we seek. MEDIUM PROGRESS: We have gone through several iterations of our solution, identified the key outputs and outcomes our intervention leads to, and have articulated the key assumptions that must be true for our solution to address the outcomes we seek. HIGH PROGRESS: We have done significant testing (in house or with an external partner) and we are confident--validated by feedback--that we have the right mix of features and the correct activities, outputs and outcomes to lead to the vision we seek.

EVIDENCE OF IMPACT: What evidence do you have that your solution is contributing toward your vision for change, and that you are preparing to scale the right solution?

BEGINNING: We are assuming that our solution creates the impact we seek. LOW PROGRESS: We have initial, informal feedback that our solution is having a positive impact, but we don't know that this is the best solution for us to scale. MEDIUM PROGRESS: We have data showing that our solution has the impact we seek for our target clients, but we are considering how modifications could create even more impact so that we are sure we are scaling the right model. HIGH PROGRESS: We have evidence of our model's impact for our target clients. We feel highly confident we're scaling a solution that has better impact than other solutions, and we have systems for continually collecting evidence and improving the model.
